We have one seller who specializes in collector cartridges and often has 7 x 57, 7.65 x 53, 6.5 x 55 and 8 x 57. The 7 x 57 is an excellent caliber and I have had decent luck finding modern production ammo (by PPU) at local gunshows here in Columbus. Spanish Model 1895 1916 Rifle Parts 7mm Mauser Carbine Cleaning Rod Chilean | eBay I have also included a link to a seller who indicates he has the exact rod you are looking for, as follows: There are quite a few 98K rods listed on ebay at this time. It would not be useable for cleaning but you shouldn't rely on the period equipment for this task as it is quite primitive. The rod from a 98Kurz is 12.5 inches long and would be of the correct length if you are not picky about it being from the same type of rifle. Every part on every gun has been hand-cleaned and lightly. So the rod you have not threading may indicate some problem with the threads inside the forearm. 1895 Chilean Mauser 7×57 Short Rifles Freshly Reconditioned We recently obtained the last nine available original 1895 Chilean Mauser short rifles that were professionally restored by Navy Arms, using the original 19th and early 20th Century techniques for arsenal reconditioning.

I don't own a short rifle version for comparison so I will defer to the data provided by mkgr22. The Mauser Model 1895 adopted as Fusil Mauser Chileno Mo 1895 by Chilean forces, is a bolt operated magazine fed rifle using the 7× 57mm Mauser cartridge. I believe this to be one of the 'as new' ones that came in the country in the late 60s or early 70s. Xryan.jacksonx I am still not sure that a correct cleaning rod for your rifle will solve your problem, but it will probably help. As the title states.is the M1895 Chilean Mauser rifle considered to be safe when firing the standard 7X57 ammo that is available from commercial sources such as Remington or Winchester I picked up a nice, all matching ( including the cleaning rod ) one today.
